HIS Kids Crafts: Sonshine Paper Plate Craft

HIS Kids Feature Craft #4 July 2009

SONSHINE PAPER PLATE #HKCF4 MRO SPP0907
(Not intended for children under 3 years of age. Adult supervision recommended.)

Craft “Purpose-filled” Benefits: Manual Dexterity, Patterns, Shapes, Color Patterns, Seasons, Nature, Solar System, Faith-Sharing, Family Cohesiveness.

Materials Needed:
Paper Plate
Construction Paper (yellow & orange)
Glue
Scissors
Colors
*Optional* Child’s Photo

*Note to parents: This craft is easily adaptable for multiple children. It is fun for the kids to do this craft together, using the many different sized hands of the children in the family . . . Maybe the adults too!*

1. Fold construction paper. Trace your child’s hand on the construction paper. Create at lest 10 hands. Cut out the hand tracings.

2. Glue a circle of handprints, with fingers pointed outward from the plate, around the outside of the plate, alternating yellow and orange handprints. The fingers become the sunbeams.

3. Glue a second layer of handprints, with fingers pointing outwards, just inside the first circle.

4. Cut out the yellow construction paper circle, or use a photo of yourself to give your “Sonshine” a great smiley face . . . your's.

5. Discuss the summer season, the importance of the sun in our daily lives and the position of the sun in the solar system. You can talk about how the sun is like Christ, shining His saving light into our lives. Discuss with your child how we are to be like “stars in the universe” and why sharing Christ is so important to your family.

We pray you have been blessed by the quality time you just enjoyed with your child.

God Keeps His Promises Banner Craft {Family Table Time}

Crafting time can also be a great time to draw your child into greater  opportunities to learn as a family.  Family centered learning and discussion are great building blocks for every well-balanced child.  Children enjoy every opportunity to use glue, colors, paint, sequence, glitter ... and well just love to get their hands on some major potential mess-maker!

We have enjoyed lots of reading, lively discussion, crafting, hands-on fun and fellowship doing FAMILY TABLE TIME LESSONS together over the years.  Using a little glue, some simple crafting supplies and a little focus, you can begin discussing God's goodness with your child.

TABLE TIME LESSON: God Keeps His Promises

Read aloud Genesis Chapter 15 together.
We loved to use the The Beginners Bible when the kids were smaller.

Ask your children to tell you what they know about God keeping His promises after hearing this story.

Here are some addition Table Top Discussion "Starters":
  • Discuss as a family about Abraham and the covenant that God made with him.  What exactly IS a covenant?  Look up the word in the dictionary.
  • Why is the covenant still important to us today?
  • Has anyone ever broken a promise to you?
  • How did it make you feel?
Now, you can help you child explore the joy of knowing God ALWAYS keeps His promises.
  • Give your children some blank paper and ask them to draw a picture of a time that God has kept His promise to them.
  • Ask your child to write a list of five reasons that they are thankful for God's faithfulness in  keeping His promises.  You can use a blank journal to begin your thankfulness journal.  If your younger children are not yet writing, you can write there answers down for them and then let them color or decorate their page.
GOD KEEPS HIS PROMISES BANNER CRAFT: How-To

[Good+Keeps+His+Promises+HCKMROGKP0509.jpg]

Crafter Level: This craft is not intended for children under the Age of 3, BUT littler children can easily complete this simple craft with hand-over-hand method.

Materials You Will Need:
  • 4 Large Star Cut-Outs (we pre-cut our stars using a cookie cutter)

1.  Glue your sequin stars all over your blue construction piece (banner).

2.  Punch 2 holes on the top of banner. Now, thread your yard into the holes provided. Thread it from the back of you banner to the front.

3. Write “God Keeps His Promises” one your stars. One word per star & glue to banner.
 4.  Next glue your craft sticks to you banner. Glue 1 stick to the bottom of banner & the other stick directly on top of pre-punched holes at the top of your banner. This should help secure your yarn to your banner.

You Are There July 4th, 1776
Let's go back to the Philadelphia Statehouse on a blistering hot July evening in 1776 when the gathered colonial delegates come to a crisis point -- with a British Armada looming ominously in New York harbor and certain attack imminent, will the Declaration of Independence be adopted, or tossed out altogether? This great episode of "You Are There" recreates the events of that day as they might have been covered by radio reporters, had they been there at the time. Listen to the events that occurred on the birthday of our country. A great "living history" program!
-and-
The Great Gildersleeve An Old Fashioned 4th of July
Also, here's our annual re-presentation of one of our favorite radio shows ever, the Great Gildersleeve’s Old-Fashioned Fourth of July program from way back in 1948. Boy, wouldn’t it be great to have a 4th of July celebration like this? This warm, funny, and patriotic episode captures a holiday full of carbide cannons, flags, patriotism, wagon rides, swimming hole antics, picnics and sing alongs... a way to spend a holiday that no longer exists today. You’ll love it!http://www.homeschoolradioshows.com/
