Keepers at Home: How's the laundry holding up?

How's The Laundry Holding Up?

This entire line of questioning could have already put you on the defensive . . . I know, it has put me on the defensive many times.  Just ask my dear, long-suffering husband!  Just the thought of laundry piling up in the hallway or waiting in baskets sends most normal housewives into a fit of depression or panic.  I do not even have to physically see the mess left in the wake of dirty laundry to begin a fit of anxiety, internally and externally.  I can just "know" it is there waiting for me to tackle it, and it has already ruined my day!  Strike that . . . I have already ALLOWED it to ruin my day!

From this point ladies, you can probably guess how it turns out.  A steady but rapid decline in positive attitude, perseverance and kindnesses.  All those wonderful Proverbs 31 attributes that I long to reflect in my daily life are thrown right out the window.  Right out the window and into the front yard (you know, where I'd like to throw the dirty laundry)!  Who profits from this fit?  How is anything made better by this line of questioning about my stupid laundry?  How am I supposed to thrive as a keeper at home, dutiful wife, loving friend and keep my children homeschooled properly?  Why am I seeking to accomplish all these actions by my own strength?

Ah-ha!  There is the jewel!  Not by my strength, but by His strength.  Not my will be accomplished today, but His will for me.  Not that I might receive the glory for a job well done, but that at the end of the day that I may lay it all at Jesus' feet to glorify Him!  God's grace is sufficient for us all.  We must first lay down our need to be in control of every detail in our homes and lives.  We must be willing to let His mercies renew themselves to us each and every morning.

God is always there, waiting to renew, restore and give you enough grace for the entire day.  He gives enough for you to endure and accomplish in that day, and that day alone.  He does not give enough grace and strength for the next day or the day after, just today!  Let us then, accept His merciful grace for today and say:

"Yahweh, I embrace Your grace for me today.  I will follow the path You chose for me, with gladness in my heart.  You are piling bundles of grace for me to experience between my piles of laundry.  I  trust you Jesus to put more of You in me and take out what is left.  Let me accomplish, with a joyful attitude, what is necessary to give You glory, honor and praise!  Let my spirit be clean and unstained, and smelling sweet as the laundry coming off the clothesline.  In Jesus' name ~ Amen!"

Mac Homeschool: Backyard Winter Olympics Games

BACKYARD Winter Olympics 2010

Let the games begin!  Last weekend we celebrated the spirit of the Winter Olympics with some fellow homeschool families.  I wanted to share some of the fun games and crafts that we participated in as we hosted our BACKYARD Winter Olympics Celebration.

The Scout & The Bug race the Marble Luge.
(I don't think she likes loosing.  What do you think?)

Big Daddy Mac created this Marble Luge run for the kids to race their marbles down hill.

The Bug competes in the Winter Clothes Relay Race.

This game was the favorite of all the kids.  They raced in two separate teams, relay style.  Waiting for them on the opposite side of the yard was a pile of winter clothing (coveralls, coats, hat, gloves & scarf).  Each child put on every piece of winter clothing, took it back off and then tagged the next person on their team to run and do the same.  It was very entertaining for the adults to watch!

The Squeaker & The Scout show off their torches and cookie medals.
(That's our living room reading lamp behind them, fashioned into an Olympic Torch!)

We took a simple pattern from Skip To My Lou to make these fun Olympic torches and Cookie medals. Look Here for the pattern.

We had a great time and it was a fun way to keep the kids engaged in the Olympic studies we had completed the week before.  Let us know how you and your family learned and celebrated the Winter Olympics 2010!

Happy Homeschooling!

Our Daily Bread: God Who Are You? Bible Study

OUR DAILY BREAD

Greetings fellow sisters in Christ,

Today I wanted to share with you all, how God is moving in my heart as I join in an Online Bible study with the ladies from At The Well: Titus 2.  Before I begin, watch this video clip from comedian Tim Hawkins.

Now, you have to admit, that was funny but I'm just not sure that he really gets the idea of "hedge of protection".  In our Bible study this week, we have begun to reflect on the names of God and what they mean in our daily lives.  Yahweh, is the most sacred name of God.  The meaning is "I Am, the One who Is, the self-existent One".  The Hebrew meaning is translated in our current Bibles as "LORD" (all caps), when you see this spelling you know that the actual translation is Yahweh. (Click HERE to here Jenifer explain, Very Interesting).  The name Yahweh, reflects the true nature of an almighty, ever faithful God!

"And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.  He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people." Exodus 13:21 & 22 NKJV

When the children of Israel left Egypt, God was with them.  He protected them and moved with them.  He sent constant protection and provision for His people.  Exodus 14 shows a vivid illustration of how Yahweh turned a potentially deadly situation the Israelites were facing, to ultimately show His glory and almighty Hand.  He showed, once again, He is always in control and He is the faithful One.  In this account of the Israelites fleeing into the wilderness, we see that God turned the heart of the Egyptians, then turned and delivered His people to the other side of the Red Sea on dry land, then destroying Pharaoh and his army . . . just in time, I might add!

Why does God wait?  Why does it always seem to be just in the nick of time?  My beloved sister, God is always on time.  Yahweh's glory and might will be evident in your life through every circumstance that He brings you through, or safes you from.  His faithfulness to protect and ultimately deliver His children produces knowledge of His greatness and glory to others and produces fear of the LORD and belief in the One that He has sent, Jesus Christ, in His children. (Exodus 14:30-31)

As we come to the final thoughts in this session of Jenifer's Bible study, I wanted to share a thought that she gives us in Session 2: Day 2.  "Moses came to realize how utterly important it was for the LORD to always be with him.  In Exodus 33, Moses said to the LORD, 'I'm not going anywhere unless You go with me.  Your Presence must go with me."  Jenifer paraphrased Exodus 33 to help us reflect on how we are moving throughout our days.  Do you ask God to go with you?  Will you refuse to go anywhere that His Presence will not go?  Why would we want to go anywhere or do anything without the almighty, faithful, merciful, compassionate and loving Yahweh?

I submit ladies, that we go forward, like the Israelites, with the Pillar and Fire going before us!  The LORD was in the pillar of cloud and He set the pillar to guide and to stand between the Israelites and their enemies.  Let Yahweh guide us all today and let us only go where He is leading us.  At the end of the day, I promise, He will show Himself faithful and true as your God!

Bible Study: God Who Are You? Session 2 Monday's Discussion

God . . . who are You & what can You do for me?
Getting to know the Almighty God

Greetings sisters in Christ!

We are continuing this week with our 10 week Bible Study series from Jenifer at By His Grace Ministry called God . . . who are You and what can You do for me?  Our second session begins today via a blog discussion post from Titus 2 At The Well.  You can begin anytime, so please join in on this study.

This study is designed to join sisters in Christ, where ever they are, to learn more about God and to grow in our relationship with Him.  I have just completed the first week and have been blessed by how the Lord is communicating to me and how He is moving in my life.  Please join us today.  Here is how you can join in:

1.  Visit Titus 2 HERE join this week's Bible study.
2.  Download your FREE study guide from Jennifer.  You will find the current week's study guide, just below her video posts on Monday.
3.  Complete your daily study session (in your study guide) and then come back to this blog and we will continue or daily discussions by posting comments on this blog.
4.  I will be posting each day, reflecting on the discussion question and the study session from each day.  Please join me as we grow with Him.
5.  Return to Titus 2 each Monday to be led in the studying of God's Holy Word with Jenifer at By His Grace Ministry.

Today's discussion question: (you can answer 1 or both, that's up to you)

1. What does it mean to you to know that you are precious in God's sight?
2. Can you think of a time in your life when you've experienced, firsthand, the LORD's faithfulness? Share your thoughts.

As a wife, mother, daughter and friend, I don't believe that there is a day that goes by that God's faithfulness is not evident in my life!  His faithfulness is essential to just be able to get me through my days, most of the time.  As a women, I believe at one time or another, we have all battled with feelings of unworthiness and self-doubt.  These were major issues for me in the past, that were battled daily in the forms of depression, worry and anxiety.  Oh, to be able to give the Lord back all those wasted times, moments and years!  I can't turn back time, so that is where His grace and loving faithfulness met me!

The moment that I realized that God loves me enough to send His only Son for me, even if I were the only one who needed saving, was one of the most precious times in my life.  I could no longer feel unworthy, for He made me worthy through Christ.  I could no longer worry or feel anxious, for He has given me a spirit of courage, love and of a sound mind.   His love and protection is surrounding me constantly.  I can always go forward knowing that His hedge of protection is about me and my family, and that whatever life may bring my way, there is nothing that He does not understand nor anything that He hasn't Himself endured for my sake!  Wow, that is awesome!  Thank you Jesus!

Have a blessed and beautiful week in the Lord's service.  Hope to see you "At the Well".

Keepers at Home: Thought

“We are not created as wonderful wives. We must learn daily, over and over, how to rid ourselves of the world and to fill ourselves with the Word. Though we try, we will never be accomplished, and must always strive to fight off the world’s enticements.”

Pinching Pennies: Bye-Bye Debit Card & Giveaway!

*This Giveaway is CLOSED*
The prize remains unclaimed, no participation. . . oh, well, I'll use the goodies!!!
Say "Bye-Bye" to Your Debit Card

The bank takes much more than you realize when you use your ATM and Debit Card on a frequent basis.  They mask and disguise it with "convenience" but ultimately you will always pay the $$$.  Here are some quick and simple steps to save some $$$ by taking it back from the bank.

  • Use only your own bank's ATM machines when you wish to withdraw money and get cash and you will avoid some fees that really add up.  Most banks (including your own bank) will charge you $2 per transaction.  If you get cash up to three times per week, you will save $6. (+ $24 in your pocket)
  • Stay above the minimum balance required in your checking account to avoid monthly charges.  If your balance has grown, make sure your fees reflect that.  Banks often waive or lower a fat checking account's maintenance charge. (+ $10 in your pocket)
  • Open a savings account with no ATM card access. When you get your paycheck, sock away $15 a week. (+ $60 in your pocket)
  • Paying bills via on-line banking can save you up to $3.75 for checks and $4.95 for postage. (+ $8.70 in your pocket)
YOU'LL SAVE: $102.70

These few things can help empower you to be the frugal homemaker that you never knew you could be!
