Here is a fun family craft to help the birds fly back home this spring!
PINECONE BIRD FEEDERS
Materials:
Large Pinecones
Organic Peanut Butter (Birds like the crunchy)
Shortnening
Cornmeal
Birdseed (Wild preferred)
Fishing line, string or yarn
Wrap and tie string to top of pinecone. (IF you have a scout this is a great time to teach or review "square knot" tying) Mix peanut butter, shortening and cornmeal. Then spread the mixture onto the pinecone. Roll the pinecone in birdseed. Hang your bird feeder in a spot where you can watch the birds eat.
Note: Please use shortening and cornmeal. This is an IMPORTANT step. Birds have difficulty digetsting the peanut butter without it.
Enjoy nature together with your family & welcome the birds home to your neighborhood after a long winter's journey.
